Research Interests/Description:

As an Association Dean, I get to help students think through courses, majors, and long-term academic and career goals. I am passionate about helping students find spaces and pathways that spark their senses of curiosity, confidence, and belonging while in the College and I enjoy joining each student in embracing a spirit of exploration about what that might entail.

I teach in Religious Studies and American Studies, focusing on how religion intersects with major forces in American culture, including capitalism, imperialism, and racism. I teach a course on “Christianity and Ecology” in the Religious Studies department, while in American Studies, I teach a course titled “Global America” that examines the tension between America’s identity as a “nation of immigrants” and its actions as a global imperial power. Outside of the classroom, I do research on the way religious environmentalism has been shaped (and often limited) by American capitalism. I’ve had the pleasure of producing two podcasts related to this research with the Race, Religion, and Democracy lab at UVA, which can be found here (hyperlink: https://religionlab.virginia.edu/podcast/what-would-krishna/) and here (hyperlink: https://religionlab.virginia.edu/podcast/field-notes-sticky-situation/).

When I'm off grounds, I like to spend my time making pizza, watching soccer, and hanging out with my partner, Jackie, a clinical social worker who specializes in trauma therapy.
